Senior Residences in British Columbia

British Columbia is Canada's first province to set minimum standards for assisted living facilities under the Community Care and Assisted Living Act. Seniors living in BC have a wide range of opportunities for their living arrangements. There are programs that help seniors with modest incomes and those that sell apartment space at a market rate. Although there are others, the following facilities are great examples of the programs offered in BC.

The Victorian

Located in Victoria, this facility offers picturesque surroundings, a safe and secure environment and all the comforts of home. The Victorian allows seniors to live near great shopping, dining and healthcare. It also offers its residents help with housekeeping and transportation to various appointments. This facility is more like a resort than a nursing home, as seniors can enjoy room service, exercise programs and various social events.

The Tapestry at the O'Keefe

As a part of the larger Arbutus Walk community in Vancouver, this facility is located near all the shopping, parks and recreation facilities of Vancouver's West Side. Residents enjoy fine restaurants, beach and ocean views and beautiful nature walks. Seniors can take advantage of many great amenities, such as housekeeping, transportation and laundry services. The Tapestry also has an on-site spa and library for those looking to relax.

Amenida Seniors Community

Located in Surrey, Amenida offers help to seniors who need assistance with certain day-to-day tasks, but still function relatively independently. This facility gives seniors the support they need while still offering privacy and all the benefits of urban living. Amenida is located near many golf courses, libraries and cafes. Residents can enjoy living in a private, one-bedroom apartment with their small pet. Staff is always on-call to assist with any of the residents' needs.

Senior residences in BC range from those offering close, physical supervision to those just giving a little extra help. Most facilities can tailor a specific program to meet a senior's needs. These programs make sure their residents are safe and secure while allowing them to retain their dignity.
